The Coming of Jesus
Revelation 22:12-14 & 16-17 & 20_21
Good News Translation (GNT)
*************************
12 "Listen!" says Jesus. "I am coming soon!
I will bring my rewards with me, to give to
each one according to what he has done.
13 I am the first and the last, the beginning
and the end."
14 Happy are those who wash their robes clean
and so have the right to eat the fruit
from the tree of life and to go through the
gates into the city.
16 "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to announce
these things to you in the churches.
I am descended from the family of David;
I am the bright morning star."
17 The Spirit and the Bride say, "Come!"
Everyone who hears this must also say,
"Come!" Come, whoever is thirsty; accept the
water of life as a gift, whoever wants it.
20 He who gives his testimony to all this says,
"Yes indeed! I am coming soon!" So be it.
Come, Lord Jesus!
21 May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with
everyone. [b]

The Coming of Jesus
Revelation 22:12-14 & 16-17 & 20_21
Then John saw all the dead from every generation standing before the throne.
What John was seeing was a vision of the "second resurrection,"
in which all the dead will take part.
As soon as the second resurrection had taken place, God's last judgment began.
The books containing the records of each person's life on earth were opened.
John writes that the dead were judged according to what they had done
as recorded in the books.
There was another book, too, the book of life.
In this book were written the names of all those who were to be saved.
Men are not saved by their good works; they are saved only through faith.
But the proof of true faith is good works.
The faith of each person can be determined by what he or she has done on earth -
as recorded in the books.
God is called the Alpha and the Omega.
Here Jesus gives Himself the same name.
Those who have washed their robes are those who have been purified from sin
by the blood of Christ. Only they will be allowed to pass into the heavenly city
Here Jesus calls Himself the Root and Offspring of David.
Next He calls Himself the bright Morning Star.
This Morning Star is a sign of the dawning of a new day
after a long night of tribulation -
a sign of the new day of the kingdom of Jesus.
The Spirit (the Holy Spirit) and the bride (the church)
say to all men: "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come.
John here repeats the words of the One who testifies to these things,
namely Jesus:
"Yes, I am coming soon."
Come, Lord Jesus. We are waiting for you.
Men labour and strive. They build cities and kingdoms.
But what they do is all in vain. Men cannot build a better world on their own.
We have failed to do so over and over again.
We have only one hope, and that is in your return.
Come, Lord Jesus. Amen
