Song of Solomon 2:8-13
Good News Translation (GNT)
*************************
The Second Song
The Woman
8 I hear my lover's voice. He comes running
over the mountains, racing across the hills to
me.
9 My lover is like a gazelle, like a young stag.
There he stands beside the wall. He looks in
through the window and glances through the
lattice.
10 My lover speaks to me.
The Man
Come then, my love; my darling, come with
me.
11 The winter is over; the rains have stopped;
12 in the countryside the flowers are in bloom.
This is the time for singing; the song of doves
is heard in the fields.
13 Figs are beginning to ripen; the air is fragrant
with blossoming vines. Come then, my love;
my darling, come with me.

Commentary taken from BRF New Daylight
Ideal for anyone wanting an accessible yet stimulating aid to spending time with God each day, deepening their faith and their knowledge of scripture.
The woman is expressively eloquent again, this time in describing her anticipation.
Here just the recall of his voice is enough to set her a-quiver!
But her anticipation is not a hollow yearning, a wishful thinking.
Already, her lover is on his way, taking ground in great strides in his own eagerness to be with her.
I must admit that I have not always been as diligent as I could be over my daily quiet time.
Sometimes, despite my best intentions, the demands of the day shout louder than the gentle, inviting whispers of my Saviour.
I remember a time, some years ago, when I realised how much I was missing Jesus!
I knelt in prayer, nose almost pressed to the carpet, and poured out my longing for him on paper, my tears splashing the page.
This is what love can look like: the ache to reconnect, to say, 'I've missed you. Come close again.'
And how does our Lord respond?
By turning up so quickly that it is as if he has taken one giant bound to reach us.
(Of course, the greater truth is that he never left our side, though it can feel as if he did.)
In his swift arrival is an invitation to get up and join him, to put behind the things that have kept us from his presence and to embrace all that lies ahead.
Jesus, away from you it feels like a permanent winter. Come close to me now and put fresh hope into my heart. Amen.
