'A Christmas message from
Bishop Debbie'
As Christmas draws close,
"I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all so much "
for the many varied ways in which you support the work of our parishes, benefices, schools and other chaplaincy contexts.
Each week I am delighted to visit different places and see at first hand the light of Jesus shining out in our communities.
At Christmas, we focus on this light in the form of a tiny baby and marvel at the fact that God chose to send his Son to live among us so that we can see more of the Father.
The humility of the stable, the absence of riches, the extraordinary people who first met him face-to-face - once again I am struck by the counter-cultural way in which God's Kingdom is ushered in.
As we seek Jesus in our own lives and experience the wonder of God among us, we too can be witness to the gospel that brings transformation and life.
This year we have had a particular focus on prayer and it has been encouraging to hear stories of all that you have been doing.
I pray that in 2026, we will continue to deepen our own faith as well as reach out to those who have not yet encountered the Saviour of the World.
With my thanks and best wishes for a wonderful Christmas,
'The Right Reverend Debbie Sellin'
the 39th bishop, who was installed in early 2024,
making her the first female bishop for the diocese that covers Northamptonshire and Rutland.
She previously served as Bishop of Southampton and is focused on thriving parishes, supporting youth, and bringing unity to the diocese.
