"Renewing of Your Mind"
Romans_12_2
In today's world, most of us hustle to make money and get things done.
But while hard work is essential to survival and providing for our family's basic needs, it shouldn't come at the expense of God.
Unfortunately, many people either struggle or simply neglect to make room for God in their lives.
Romans 12:2 encourages us to reflect and renew the mind because it is only through the commitment to work toward God's perfect will that we can achieve true success.
The Apostle Paul says,
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
The word conform is used in the verse, indicating that Paul believes many Christians are turning away from God and are instead shaped by the forces of the world.
These worldly forces often oppose the ways of God.
The more we follow them, the more we veer away from a life that follows God's will.
As opposed to living a life of sin and self-destruction, which is a likelihood if we conform to the world, following God's will makes it possible to have a heart and mind in the likeness of God.
This resonates with the dilemma we face as modern-day Christians.
Every single day, believers are faced with choices and decisions that either conform to the world or follow God's will.
The paradox here is that by abstaining from the patterns of worldly pleasures and material gains, we can achieve what truly makes us happy.
Transformation by renewing your mind is the most important takeaway from the Romans 12:2 Bible verse.
Reading scripture is the first step to renewing your mind.
When we read God's Word, it becomes embedded in our hearts and minds.
It becomes easier to wear the belt of truth in our daily lives.
Reviewing scripture is essential, but you can't stop there.
To renew your mind, you must embrace biblical truth.
You need to follow the lessons the Bible teaches and have confidence in their validity.
It often helps to have a mentor to walk alongside you on your faith journey.
Someone who has dedicated their life to God's Word can help you understand and apply it better.
Personal time with God deepens your faith and allows you to align your thoughts with His will.
By doing so by yourself, you are free from worldly concerns or distractions.
You can experience God's grace and mercy internally, which has more impact on your faith.
When renewing your mind, you must trace the origin of your thoughts.
This will enable you to identify factors that might have a negative influence on your thoughts, such as social media or societal norms.
Acknowledging where the influence is coming from allows us to shift our mindset toward God's truth.
Make an effort to reach out to your community and maintain fellowship with other believers.
You can share gospel teachings, discuss spiritual insights, and encourage each other.
Having the guidance of a biblical community ensures that you stay within God's path and not be tempted by the evils of the world.
This is an intentional and ongoing process of strengthening our faith, which is why attending church service regularly and engaging in fellowship with other believers is crucial.
