"Paul has warned those in Corinth not to
receive God's grace in vain. "
What does 2 Corinthians 6:2 mean?
This refers to how they respond to hearing the message, not a suggestion that God's grace cannot save them.
In other words, they are cautioned to accept the gospel of reconciliation with God through faith in Christ alone and nothing else.
It's possible some in Corinth were being influenced by false teachers.
They were trapped in counterfeit versions of the gospel that may have included legalism under the Old Testament law, or continuing to worship idols.
Paul uses a quote from Isaiah 49:8
'The Restoration of Jerusalem'
The Lord says to his people,
"When the time comes to save you, I will show you favour and answer your cries for help. I will guard and protect you and through you make a covenant with all peoples. I will let you settle once again in your land that is now laid waste.
to remind the Corinthians that this invitation to be reconciled to God through Christ is a limited time offer.
God told Isaiah that He had heard the prophet in a favourable time and helped him in a day of salvation.
Paul insists that for those who would be heard and helped by God through faith in Christ, 'now' is the favourable time and the day of salvation.
God never speaks to someone to tell them to be saved "someday."
He does not call on people to delay, but to turn to Christ right now.
Not every time or every day will be open for salvation.
Mostly, that's because nobody knows how many days they have left in life (James 4:14).
You don't even know what your life tomorrow will be! You are like a puff of smoke, which appears for a moment and then disappears.
Eventually, time runs out and eternity begins.
Paul may also have in mind the return of Christ and the day of judgement
1 Thessalonians 5:2
For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come as a thief comes at night.
When the end comes - by death or apocalypse - it will be too late to be reconciled to God.
Paul does not want his readers to hesitate to put their full faith in Christ for salvation.

About BibleRef.com
BibleRef.com is an ongoing project creating a comprehensive, free, original, online commentary of the entire Bible.
Many people avoid deeper Bible study because they are intimidated.
They see the Bible itself as too big, too complex, or too obscure to understand.
Many Bible commentaries are filled with slogans, religious jargon, and ten-dollar words.
It's difficult for the common person to find a relatable commentary.
To counter this, BibleRef.com is built around three core principles.
These are Biblical Authority, Accessibility, and Discipleship.
Each line of commentary, and every article, is weighed against these principles.
