'We are loved'

Saturday Reflection

12th September 2020

'you knit me together'

13 For you created my inmost being;
   you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully
   and wonderfully made;
   your works are wonderful,
   I know that full well.
   .... Ps 139:13-14

Have you ever stopped to think
just what amazing pieces of creation we are?
God spent immeasurable care in planning,
creating and knitting us together.

'The LORD your God is with you;
 his power gives you victory.
 The LORD will take delight in you,
 and in his love he will give you new life.
 He will sing and be joyful over you.'
   .... Zephaniah 3:17

God loves us because he made us.
But is that hard to believe today?
Perhaps you're stumbling over past mistakes,
failures, feeling underserving and undesirable.
When we feel unlovable,
we can learn from King David, who said,

'I am fearfully and wonderfully made.'

If not for the phrase before it -

'I praise you,' -

that statement would be nothing but bragging.
'I praise you,' is the essential piece
our self-loving culture is missing.
The first part of the verse makes the second part true.
If we start with praise of our Creator,
then loving ourselves becomes natural.

'I praise you because I am fearfully
and wonderfully made;'

In praising God,
loving ourselves becomes
an act of worship towards our Creator.

Let's try putting these thoughts into practice.
How do we love ourselves?
What do we love about who we are
and how God created us?
Our bodies are amazing - did you know?

In our bodies we have:
¤ have enough Sodium chloride (salt)
   to fill 40 teaspoons
¤ Enough fat to make
   7 bars of soap
¤ Enough Phosphorous
   to make the heads of 110 matches
¤ We have about 4 grams of iron;
   enough to make 6 nails
¤ We produce enough saliva
   in our lifetime to fill
   two swimming pools.
¤ Tongue prints
   are as unique as fingerprints.
¤ While awake, our brain produces
   enough electricity to light
   a small lightbulb.
¤ A quarter of our bones are in our feet -
   and, bonus,
¤ babies have 94 more bones than an adult
¤ The small intestine is roughly 23 feet long.
¤ We shed about 600,000 particles
   of skin every hour.

You are one of a kind;
you're not a replica,
you were not mass produced.
You are fearfully ad wonderfully
made by your loving Creator.
On days when you feel unloved
and unlovable embrace the fact
that you are greatly loved.

4 But God is so rich in mercy,
  and he loved us so much,
5 that even though we were dead
  because of our sins,
  he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.
  It is only by God's grace
  that you have been saved!
  ... Ephesians 2:4-5 (NLT)

Praise and thank God for our creation,
his love and protection,
his working in our lives.
