'Unless we agree'

Wednesday Reflection

8th July 2020

If we want to walk with God...

If we want to walk with God, we must agree with him.
In order to experience his promises in our lives
we must agree with what those promises say -
whether we understand how they could happen, or not.

When the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her she would give birth to a son, she asked;

'How can this be since I do not know a man.' (Luke 1:34)

It was a fair question; it seemed impossible to Mary.
She just couldn't get her mind around how Gabriel's announcement could happen.
I love his reply,

'The Holy Spirit will...' (Luke 1:35).

That is the answer to all our impossibilities as well.
When we cannot understand how a promise from God could be achieved,
the answer is by 'The Holy Spirit'; by his power,
all God's promises are put into practice.

At this point Mary could have said, 'No way!
This makes no sense to me; I cannot accept it!'
But she didn't, she said,

'Behold the maidservant of the Lord,
 let it be according to your word.' (Luke 1:38)

Mary agreed with God's word and a miracle happened.

If Noah, living miles from the sea, had said, 'No' to God's request
that he build an ark he, his family and all of humanity
would not have been saved from the flood
that destroyed every other living thing on earth.

If Moses had refused to go back to Egypt and put his life in danger
to lead the Israelites out of slavery,
they would have stayed in captivity and never made it to the promised land.

If Abraham had not trusted God
and had refused to take his household on the long journey from Ur to Canaan
he would not have become the founding father of the Israelites
and known as the first patriarch of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
The list goes on, and is still going on ...
Proverbs 3:5-8 (MSG) says

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don't try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God's voice in everything you do,
everywhere you go;
he's the one who will keep you on track.
Don't assume that you know it all.
Run to God! Run from evil.
Your body will glow with health,
your very bones will vibrate with life!

Whatever we are facing today
let us make the decision to agree with God and his promises.
Trust him - and the Holy Spirit will make his word happen.
