Rev. Tim Partridge
September 1974 - 2004
************************
Timothy Reeve Partridge
I was born (1939) in a small village outside of Doncaster - as the family moved to Northamptonshire when I was only 9 months old, I consider myself Yorkshire born but Northamptonshire bred.
When I was 18 years old and going to university, I had not really made up my mind what I would do - then my mother-in-law said "why not become a minister?" and here I am today.
I was ordained in 1962, in Gloucester Cathedral.
I came to Bugbrooke because Cannon Harrison said to my father-in-law, that he was looking for somebody to take his place at Bugbrooke.
As I had spent the last nine years in Lincolnshire, it was an opportunity to move on to a different parish and also return to Northamptonshire.
After ordination I served three years at St. Catherine's in Gloucester - a very mixed parish. (1962-1965)
A total of nine years with a group of villages in South Lincolnshire.(1965-1974)
Tim Partridge - start of incumbency -
St. Luke's Holbeach Hurn in 1966,
(Press cutting found to Tim Partridge -
Vicar of Holbeach Hurn (1972) -
(and on Facebook by Carol Clark
Sad day for the Hurn when the partridge
family left. Village never the same after))
I met Esther (Roberts) at a church social in 1955.
We were married at Kettering Parish Church in 1962.
Esther, being the daughter of the rector, and I being the son of the Headmaster of the Parish School.
I enjoy most of Great Britain, for different reasons, but Norfolk and the Derbyshire Dales are favourite places.
My greatest fear is going up ladders, and looking over sides of buildings where the ground slopes away.
If I could only take three books to a desert island, I would choose The Lord of the Rings, the Bible and the Oxford Book of Poetry
Three pieces of music would be the Beatles Albums, the Nutcracker Suite and recordings by Peterborough Cathedral Choir
My favourite food and drink are rice puddings and lemon and lime - very refreshing.
My ambition is to enjoy my retirement.
My regret would be not to have done more cycling, particularly competitive cycling.
I would have liked, most of all, to have been good enough to have played rugby for England.
If one single thing could improve my quality of life in general, it would be forty eight hours in a day, so I could have more time to do everything I would like to do.
On consideration, I think that the person I admire the most, is the Queen -
forever in the public eye and appearing to cope with the pressures that must incur, - in a calm and relaxed manner.
In my spare time, I enjoy watching most sports - chess - reading - walking - family histories and local history - this is where the forty eight hour day would be useful.
My 'most embarrassing moment' has happened on a few occasions -
when saying goodbye at the church door after the service saying to someone
'Are you a visitor?' and they replied, 'No we were here last week'.
I would you like to be remembered as kindly, and as a happy optimist.
About Bugbrooke, I LIKE the friendliness and enthusiasm and the rich variety of people that make up the village.
I DISLIKE the lack of facilities and homes for older residents to remain in the village, and not being sent away.
I have no violent dislikes, only cinnamon on toast (ugh)!
My message for the future, is that nations and individuals should learn to live together, and appreciate what each has to offer to the other.
My sermons are not written down as such - having selected the readings the events of the week seem to fit into the readings and by Sunday morning I usually know what I am going to say.
(Don Prime expressed his thanks to
Canon Tim Partridge for allowing him
the time to ask questions, in 1992.

From the Link magazine
On 'The Departure Of A Very Important Person', a decision was reached that the impending retirement of the Revd. Canon Tim Partridge, as Rector, in March 2004 should be marked by a gift from the Parish.
Tim and Esther came to the village in 1974. Apart from his duties as Rector of Bugbrooke, and more recently of Rothersthorpe, Tim has been involved in pantomime, rugby, twinning, the choral society, the Parish Council, as a School Governor and as a pastoral counsellor.
As well as supporting him in all these activities and raising a family of lour, Esther has been involved In Tiny Tots, the Mothers Union, the Young Wives Group, Family mornings and the Church Choir.
We shall all miss them a great deal.

Bugbrooke Parochial Church Council
